Part Time Positions:
Group Exercise Instructor
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
- Under direct supervision of the Health and Wellness Director
- Arrive to class 5 minutes prior to scheduled start time to prepare participants for class.
- Instruct group exercise classes and/or related classes.
- Stay 5 minutes after scheduled end time to answer questions and build community.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must stay current in CPRPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually
- Secure a substitute instructor when unable to teach scheduled class, remind substitute at least 24 hours in advance, and notify supervisor of change
- Assist with the Y special events when needed.
- Maintain appropriate class records on Paycom
- Maintain accurate incident/accident reports
- Positively support the Y and its mission
- Provide adequate notice to supervisor when vacating scheduled class
- Demonstrate and teach these attributes of personal character: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility
- Maintain a good rapport with fitness program participants to respond to their needs and to represent the Y
- Educate participants on proper form, contraindicated exercises and modifications of moves
- Increase participant’s awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors
- Report equipment in need of repair
- Develop positive relationships with members and provide motivational support and guidance
- Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors and volunteers
- Strong communication skills with the ability to handle complaining or demanding individuals without internalizing or personalizing such comments
- Ability to lead and motivate others
- Ability to demonstrate the skills specific to the class and have knowledge of muscle groups and body mechanics
- Attend staff meetings as designated by your supervisor.
- Maintain current certifications
- Record class attendance on designated form
- Enforce safety standards, procedures and guidelines according to branch procedures
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be certified in PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid. YMCA provided if needed.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School education or equivalent preferred.
- Must be able to lift in excess of ten pounds.
- Must have practical experience of group exercise class experience.

Lifeguard
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, your role will be to maintain and ensure a safe aquatic environment at all times. Guards are responsible for working directly with children, members. and other adult/youth while upholding the rules, safety procedures, and emergency action plans of the YMCA. Lifeguards and Swim Instructors play an integral role in the development of building strong charter values in others. The staff at all times is representative of the philosophy, mission, and goal of the YMCA and its programs. Staff must strive to work cooperatively with fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA.
**Training is available for those who are not certified**
Priority hire for those who are available to work 5:30AM-8:30AM (Monday-Friday) and/or 8:30AM - 1:00pm (Monday - Friday)
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintaining a current lifeguard certification and regular training
- Safeguarding the pool, spa, chemical room, and pool deck at all times
- Simple chemical testing
- Engaging with members and building relationships
- Completing basic aquatic tasks as assigned, including opening and
- closing procedures
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 15 1/2 years old
- Current Lifeguard Certification (YMCA will provide)
- CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED, and O2 (YMCA will provide)
- Current Standard First Aid Certification (YMCA will provide)

Personal Trainer
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under direct supervision of the Health and Wellness Directer, your role will be to design and administer personalized fitness training programs in accordance with member's needs and goals and program objectives of the Personal Training Program.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must stay current in Basic Life Support, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen, renewed annually.
- Physically and mentally fit in order to demonstrate correct form and lift excessive weight (minimum of 50 pounds) while being alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents and administer CPRPR/AED/O2 and First Aid effectively.
- Must have ability to develop all program levels for participants and have an understanding of muscles, basic nutrition and overall fitness.
- Strong communication and listening skills with the ability to handle complaining or demanding individuals without internalizing or personalizing such comments.
- Bloodborne Pathogens, Sexual Harassment and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire and renewed annually.
- Maintain current certifications.
- Administer fitness programs in keeping with Y guidelines.
- Administer individual/group fitness assessments when appropriate.
- Assist with the Y special events when needed.
- Maintain appropriate record keeping of trainees and training cards, Paycom hours reporting, and incident/accident reports.
- Enforce safety standards and procedures.
- Re-rack dumbbells and plates prior/post to training.
- Keep fitness center and free-weight areas clutter-free by picking up towels, empty water bottles, trash, etc.
- Assist in cleaning all cardiovascular, weight machines and free-weight equipment.
- Communicate with coordinator/director when equipment malfunctions or free-weight equipment is damaged.
- Notify member and supervisor if session requires rescheduling (24 hours in advance unless it is an emergency situation).
- Responsible for maintaining current knowledge in fitness trends, innovations, programs and help educate participant’s awareness of all healthy lifestyle facts.
