The YMCA Power Scholars Academy is a eight-week summer program designed to not only tackle summer learning loss in math and reading, but to also foster physical and social-emotional growth. The program was created to boost students’ academic achievements, self-confidence and social skills, while encouraging healthy lifestyles and engaging parents in their children’s education. The Power Scholars Academy provides children with an opportunity to engage in rigorous academic instruction as well as fun, camp-like enrichment activities and field trips.
Transforming Education
Studies show that every summer most students lose about two months of grade-level equivalency in math skills and reading.
Through Power Scholars Academy, student “scholars” in K-5th (rising 1st- 6th) grades get hands-on academic support to prevent and minimize this loss. For eight weeks throughout the summer, kids gather to focus on specific program goals:
- Increase math and literary skills
- Strengthen self-confidence, social-emotional learning and wellness
The program also features daily nutritious snacks & lunches provided through The Tim Hight Food Program and regular field trips to the YMCA pool, the splash pad, and other local businesses. Scholars will also participate in our Safety Around Water Program.
